Text Box: Not sure if you have a wireless network?
Text Box: To determine if your wireless network is secure~

Windows XP

Click Start.

Click Connect to.*

Click Wireless Network Connection.

Click View Wireless Networks.

Look for your network’s name. If it says “security-enabled wireless network” under the network name, you’re A-OK. If it says “unsecured wireless network” you should add security to it.

*If your Start menu does not have Connect to, click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections then Network Connections (or double click Network Connections), double click Wireless Network Connection, click View Wireless Networks.

Windows Vista

Click Start.

Click Connect to.

Click Open Network and Sharing Center.

Click Manage Wireless Networks.

Look for your network’s name. If it says “Security:” and lists a type of security (WEP, WPA, etc) you’re A-OK. If it says “Security: None” you should add security to it.

If you have only one computer and it is connected directly to a modem (a small box with lights on the front that allows your computer to communicate over the Internet) which is connected to a cable, satellite or telephone outlet in the wall, you most likely do not have a wireless network.

If you have a laptop and/or more than one computer and you are able to go anywhere in your home with the laptop and stay connected to the Internet, you most likely DO have a wireless network.

If you have a wireless network in your home, be sure it is secure. An unsecured network leaves your computer vulnerable to unwanted access. Anyone with access to your unsecured network also has access to everything on your computer. Depending on your level of computer knowledge, you might need to call in a professional to secure your network.
